UltraSonic Cleaning

What is Ultrasonic Cleaning.

In a nut shell it’s millions of tiny shock waves, (ultrasound). Cavitation bubbles penetrate through the water. Combined with a solvent solution and within a confined bath it’s this agitation of the fluid which has the cleaning effect. The agitation produces high forces on contaminants adhered to substrates like metals, plastics, glass, rubber, and ceramics. This action also penetrates blind holes, cracks, and recesses. The intention is to thoroughly remove all traces of contamination tightly adhering or embedded onto solid surfaces. Due to the nature of this cleaning method there is absolute zero damage to components. The only criteria here is that the solutions used are compatible to the materials cleaned and the appropriate bath temperature. There are some scary tales of bad ultrasonic cleaning, we have heard of stories where full banks of carbs have been cleaned with only there float bowls removed. There are of course others that are conscientious and do a great job.

Our Process. Carburettors.

We have one rule. If we cannot guarantee the item is cleaned 2016-03-23 13.12.37of all impurities then its simply not clean. Sounds very simple, but in reality it’s not.

A single carburettor stripped of all its components, tops, bowls, jets, needles and slides can be relatively easy to clean and inspect. After the ultrasonic cleaning process, rinsing, drying and blowing of all passageways we can be sure of the satisfactory cleaning of the part.

Unfortunately with multiple banks of carburettors (we feel) although they’re clean they’re not guaranteed to be. So as with our rule above, we can’t be 100% sure. That’s simply not good enough. An example of this are the blind passageways, mainly the passage between carburettor banks. It may be larger fragments of debris have been loosened and are still in these passageways. Another area is the small passageways and air tracks within the body of the carb such as choke assemblies. Our only solution to this is full strip of the carburettor banks to individual carbs therefore guaranteeing our Ultrasonic cleaning process.

Not a problem we can ultrasonic clean whatever you desire. Ultimately the main choice would be your carburettors. We have three ultrasonic baths small, medium and large. Complex.

Along with the complexity of multiple carburettors comes a huge amount of component parts. These can be very small. O rings, springs, spacers, washers and jets by the boat load. It can be very difficult to reinstate some of these components. We will always advise certain new parts when rebuilding your carburettors. Kits are available for most types and if they can be supplied with your projects you will undoubtedly keep our cost to you lower.
